Obituary for Robert L ""Bob"" Andersen

Robert L. “Bob” Andersen, 89, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Touchmark at Meadow Lake Village in Meridian.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2920 Cassia Street, Boise. There will be a viewing at 10:30 AM, prior to the services at the church. Burial will be on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Robert was born November 21, 1923 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Jens and Mamie Andersen. He went to school in Blackfoot and after graduation started college at the University of Idaho-Southern Branch, which is now Idaho State University. In February of 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his enlistment he was involved in the Invasion of Normandy and built assault bridges. He was discharged in December of 1945. Upon his return to Blackfoot, he returned to college and graduated with a degree in Forestry. During this time, he met Melba Keller and they were one month shy of being married 50 years when she passed away in 1995. After Melba and Robert were married, he returned to college at the University of Washington and received a degree in Banking and Finance. This began his banking career with First Security Bank in Blackfoot, American Falls, Pocatello, Lewiston, Gooding, Weiser, and Boise. The majority of his job was in Agricultural Lending for First Security Bank throughout the State of Idaho. He also was in charge of the Northern and Eastern Division of Banks. He then moved to Pocatello and supervised the South East Division. He retired in 1985. Robert was a member of the B.P.O.E., Arid Club, Rotary Club, The Redeemer Lutheran Church, and President of the Idaho Bankers Association, and was a member of The First Security Banks Board of Directors.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Melba; sister, Doris Raymond; and brother-in-law, William Akers.
Robert is survived by his son, Jason (Beckie) Andersen of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren, Brett and Madeline Andersen of Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters, Pamela K. Andersen of Salt Lake City, Utah, Katherine Akers of Pocatello, and Shirley Patchin of Boise.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, 444 W. Fort Street, Boise, Idaho 83702. Arrangements are at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel, Meridian.
